Line Kjaersfeldt booked the ticket to her seventh final in her career when she beat Canadian outsider Michelle Li 21-14, 12-21, 21-17 to reach the final in the Super 300-tournament Swiss Open.
In the decisive third set, the 30-year-old Kjærsfeldt found a level which the three-year-older Li could not match.
In Sunday’s final, Kjaersfeldt, who wasn’t selected to play at the Olympics by the Danish badminton federation, faces former world number one Chen Yu Fei, who, among other things, won Olympic gold in 2021 and has 15 BWF World Tour titles on her CV.
Sunday’s final is Kjaersfeldt’s first on the BWF World Tour since the summer of 2024, when she lost the final match at the Canada Open.
It was Kjaersfeldt’s sixth defeat in six finals.
Denmark is the most winning nation in the Swiss Open’s 70-year history with 55 titles. However, the last three editions have ended without Danes taking home trophies.
