SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The American Jump Rope National Championship is coming to the Elmen Center at Augustana University from June 29 to July 3, 2025, marking South Dakota’s first national jump rope tournament.

The American Jump Rope Federation is hosting the event with around 900 attendees from 19 teams across 11 states, expected to generate approximately $654,676 in visitor spending.

“After months of working with their leadership to make sure the championship event is assisted in every way, we feel Sioux Falls is ready to roll out the red carpet to welcome both participants and fans. This is a ‘don’t miss’ opportunity and an event that has never been held in South Dakota before. The jumps that the participants do are incredible. It’s fun for all ages. Let’s roll out the hospitality, Sioux Falls. See you at the Elmen Center,” said Experience Sioux Falls CEO Teri Schmidt.

Competitive jump rope has two main disciplines: single rope and double Dutch.

Events in each discipline assess athletes’ agility, creativity, and teamwork, while speed events focus on completing the most jumps in a set time.

Top competitors can achieve scores of over 200 jumps in 30 seconds.

Freestyle events feature choreographed routines that showcase incredible gymnastic ability and creativity, introducing new elements each year.

“I’ve been involved in jump rope for over 20 years, and it’s the constant innovation and incredibly supportive community that have kept me passionate all this time. It’s a lifelong sport, not just because of the physical challenge, but because of the lasting friendships you form. These athletes are always pushing the limits—you’ll see something new and inspiring at every competition!” said Jessica Nicholson, President of AMJRF.

There will be a Jump Rope Showcase on Saturday, June 28, from 6:20 to 6:40 pm at Levitt at the Falls.

Attendees will have the chance to meet and interview the jumpers, hear their stories, and learn why they love jump rope after the showcase.

The Jump Rope Jamboree is on July 2 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Elmen Center.

The event is open to youth ages 7 to 17 and offers a fun opportunity to learn jump rope skills, stay active, and make new friends.

No experience is needed, and the event is free to participate.
