Dozens of local residents left their vehicles at home and pedaled their way to Santa Rosa’s Bike-in Block Party on Saturday afternoon in Courthouse Square.
Presented in collaboration with the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition and Bikeable Santa Rosa, the free event featured all-ages bike relay races, bike safety education and informational booths and bike clinics providing tune-ups.
The event also offered face-painting, crafts and live music from a marimba band featuring Santa Rosa youth, local cumbia band Rascauches and indie-folk quartet Late for the Train.
Fourth Street was closed to vehicles between Mendocino Avenue and B Street between 2 and 7 p.m.
The block party was one of several events celebrating Bike to Wherever Month, observed locally throughout May. Up next is Bike to Work Day on Thursday.
