BILLINGS, Mont. – A special celebration took place in Billings as a local legend marked his 100th birthday. Bill Luscombe, a well-known figure in the Magic City community, celebrated the milestone surrounded by friends and family.
Luscombe, who has lived in Montana since 1963, is renowned for his skills in billiards. His birthday celebration was filled with games of pool, a pastime he has enjoyed throughout his life.
When asked about the gathering, Luscombe humorously remarked, “Pretty good. Of course, my enemies would never come!”

Luscombe’s prowess at the pool table has made him a formidable opponent, whether playing recreationally or competitively. He is known for his ability to sweep the floor—or table—with his competitors, yet he remains generous with his time, teaching others and sharing laughter along the way.

Sue Miller, a friend and teammate, shared her admiration for Luscombe. “We’ve been on teams together, we have been partners together, he has taught me a lot. He is very respected in the community; he’s honored and funny. He is an inspiration, pool and otherwise,” she said.

Luscombe, originally from Idaho, joined the Coast Guard after high school and spent much of his life as an over-the-road driver. In retirement, he has devoted more time to billiards, participating in several leagues and winning a medal at the Big Sky State Games.

Despite reaching the age of 100, Luscombe continues to play in leagues three nights a week. He lives independently and still drives. Although his wife and daughter have passed, he is survived by his son, Doug Luscombe, who resides in Arizona.
As the celebration concluded, attendees sang happy birthday to Luscombe, wishing him many more years filled with joy and pool.
