Tasked with raising money for Jump Rope For Heart, the student body worked tirelessly collecting donations and earning rewards. When the dust settled, the school had surpassed their $3,500 goal, raising $4,515 for heart and brain research. Along the way, students learned ways to reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke later in life.
Milestone rewards included pizza parties and a cozy day. However, the most anticipated date on the calendar was surely ‘Pie A Teacher in the Face Day.’
“I just looked forward to everyone’s participation and excitement. It’s a reward for their hard work,” said Grade Three Teacher Katie Mandryk. “We had some dedicated kids who were like ‘rain, snow, or shine, we’re jumping.’”
The school separated grades into divisions, with the top fundraisers in each earning the right to deliver the pie, much to the delight of classmates, teachers, and one reporter.

“This is a bit of an unusual day, but a great day,” Mandryk said. “The fundraiser is near and dear to my heart.”
