Peppa Pig fans are waking up to the news that Peppa and George are soon to have a new sibling as Mummy Pig is pregnant with her third child piglet.
Even if you haven’t been forced to watch all 389 episodes with an obsessed toddler, you’ll likely be aware of the hit franchise, which has been telling the story of Peppa, George, Mummy and Daddy Pig for over 20 years, hooking children (and parents) with their witty take on family life through hundreds of bite-sized episodes.
And now four is soon to become five as Mummy Pig has announced her pregnancy, which means George and Peppa will be welcoming a younger sibling.
From the pregnancy reveal, to potential baby names and how the news was welcomed by fans, here’s everything you need to know about Mummy Pig’s new piglet.
How did Mummy Pig announce the news?
Much to the surprise of viewers, Mummy Pig actually appeared on Good Morning Britain to share the news in an interview with presenter Richard Arnold.
“I’m excited to share that our family is getting even bigger because we’re having another baby,” she said. “I’m due in the summer, and we’re all so excited.”
The camera then panned back and revealed Mummy Pig’s bump, and she proudly showed an ultrasound scan of unborn piglet.
She added that she was a “little overwhelmed at the thought of having three children under five running around, but mostly just completely delighted”.
Earlier the series had teased the arrival of the new baby on social media, with a video of Mummy Pig remembering having a baby – including the crying.
How did Peppa and George react to the news?
When asked by Arnold if she had shared the news with her other children, Mummy Pig revealed that she had: “We weren’t able to keep it a secret for long,” she said. “Peppa knew something was going on, and she’s such a curious thing, we had to tell her before she popped.”
Mummy Pig went on to note how the children have reacted to news of a new sibling: “They’ve had the occasional wobble and worry, but they’re mostly so excited,” she revealed. “Every day they ask me how big the baby is. When is it coming? Does it like dinosaurs and muddy puddles? It never stops.”
What baby name might Mummy and Daddy Pig pick?
In her appearance on GMB Mummy Pig revealed that the family are yet to choose a moniker for the forthcoming arrival, but thinks they’ll “find the right name” once the baby arrives.
To give them some ideas baby naming expert SJ Strum has some thoughts on potential piglet picks.
“Mummy Pig, who is actually called Rachel, has a tricky name style to predict as Peppa is so unique while George is an old-fashioned classic,” she tells Yahoo UK. “I imagine as a couple Daddy Pig got more sway on the boy name which is sometimes how couples opt to make a final decision and as a nation we’re more traditional when it comes to boy names.”
If the family welcome a girl Strum recommends they opt for a “sweet spot” name they can both agree on, something special but not too unusual. “Perhaps Yasmin meaning gift then the kids initials would be PGY which is lovely for a family of pigs,” she suggests.
Strum believes may well also consider names beginning with P for girls to stick with the alliteration. “I think they might go for another playful P name like Posie, Penny or Perry for girls,” she predicts.
“With Pedro Pony being a close family friend and having a P name I imagine we’ll be looking at a new initial if it’s a boy,” Strum continues.
“Alternatively maybe they will keep a Royal theme and go with Louis as a nod to our princes. But my top pick for them is Wilbur, meaning wild boar. It fits their ancestry, has the energetic meaning to match Peppa’s name who is a bit ‘wild’ but is a sweet and classic name that matches their style.”

How did fans react to baby reveal?
Brits watching the pregnancy reveal on the morning news programme were left both confused and delighted at the news.
“There is nothing more British that mummy pig announcing her pregnancy on Good Morning Britain,” one fan wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
“Did I really just see Mummy Pig get interviewed about her pregnancy on #GMB or have I really lost it?” queried another.
“It’s 07:58 and my 13 year old son just texted me to say he doesn’t know how to feel about Mummy Pig having another baby. I have no idea how to reply,” one more fan added following the reveal.
“Well I wasn’t expecting to turn the tele on this morning to see Mummy Pig is pregnant,” yet another fan wrote.
When is the baby due?
