A man was shot and killed on I-95 by another man after he had a physical altercation with a woman in Pompano Beach.

According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office (BSO), at around 6 p.m. on Sunday, deputies received calls about a shooting on I-95 South near Oakland Park Boulevard. The shooting prompted a response from BSO, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), Oakland Park Fire Rescue, and Fort Lauderdale Police Department.

When law enforcement arrived at the scene they located Xavier Williams, 35, shot. He was quickly transported to Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Through BSO’s investigation, it was learned that a physical dispute occurred at a home in Pompano Beach between Williams, of Miami, and a woman. The woman left the home with another man and at some point on I-95 the man discharged his weapon, shooting and killing Williams.

The man who is accused of doing the shooting stayed on the scene and told law enforcement that it was self-defense.

At this time the shooting is still under investigation. BSO the case will be given to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office where they will determine if criminal charges will be filed.
