MEMPHIS, Tenn. – 32 years.
A lifetime of memories were stolen in a heartbeat and another family was torn apart by a hit-and-run driver over the weekend. This tragedy raises a critical question: How safe are our streets?
Memphis Police (MPD) said 58 crashes, including hit-and-runs, have occurred near the intersection of Shelby Oaks Drive and Sycamore View Road in the past year.

Hit-and-runs have become an all-too-common problem.
Kristian Pinckley told FOX13 that this time, it was her baby brother, Stephen Davis, who was hit by a driver who left the scene.
“Life is short and there is no reason to be driving so reckless that you are hitting somebody,” Pinckley said. “When I was younger, I used to say, ‘I needed to get there on time.’ No, you don’t have to speed to get where you are going. It’s not that important. For them to be speeding that recklessly to hit him and to keep going, it just angers me.”
Pinckley said Davis was at a hotel helping a friend who suffered a head injury Sunday. She said her brother walked across the street to the gas station and on the way back was when tragedy struck.
MPD said officers responded to the fatal pedestrian crash around 2 a.m. Police said the driver left the scene in a dark-colored 2020-21 Honda Civic Hatchback with damage to the front, hood and windshield.
“Somebody stole his phone,” Pinckley said. “For you to steal a dead man’s phone and somebody who just got hit by a car? My poor mom, we sat here for hours that day asking people for the phone.”
Police said the car was last seen heading north on Sycamore View Road from Shelby Oaks Drive.
Now, Pinckley’s family is in agony, desperately seeking answers and demanding justice for their loved one’s senseless death.
“You broke our family. Our family will never be the same. My mom will never be the same, this broke us,” said Pinckley.
