The Ravenel Bridge reopened to traffic at 10:57 a.m. on Saturday. Charleston Police say downtown road closures will remain in place until further notice.

The annual race attracts tens of thousands of runners, walkers and spectators to the Lowcountry.

The race’s starting line was on Coleman Boulevard in Mount Pleasant. Runners will then cross the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, which prompted the slogan, “Get over it,” and continue into downtown Charleston to the finish line on Meeting Street.

Roads began closing ahead of the race on Friday night. The first round of Saturday road closures began at 3 a.m. and are continuing.

The Ravenel Bridge closed at 6:30 a.m. to give authorities a chance to clear all traffic for the race. Police have also closed the pedestrian walkway to the bridge ahead of the race.

The annual event raises money for 14 charities including the Lowcountry Food Bank, MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital, Pet Helpers, Special Olympics South Carolina, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charleston, MUSC Hollings Cancer Center and Windwood Family Services.

This year’s Bridge Run has raised over $58,000, according to its website.
