Sonal Jagdale of Railways upstaged the top seed Swati Sharma of Uttarakhand to lift the women’s 35+ title at the All India Masters Ranking Badminton Tournament, being played at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sector 3.

Having lost the first game 13-21, Sonal upped the ante in the second to level the match with a nailbiting 24-22 finish. She built on the momentum to take the decided 21-14 in dominant fashion.

The men’s 35+ final was a more straightforward affair, with Ravijot Singh romping home against Sahil Katlariya 21-9 21-8.

Ravijot had in the semifinal defeated Kaushik Pal 21-16 21-15, while Katlariya had ousted Prem Singh Chouhan21-14 21-10.

Sharma made up for the singles loss by teaming up with Anees Kowser J to take the women’s doubles title, defeating Nima Lekshmy KK and Prabinu Kabra 21-13 21-16. The men’s doubles crown, meanwhile, was lifted by Bennet Antony and Manjush Mohan KK, who beat Mohamed Rehan R and Jamsheed TK 21-16 21-18.

Antony and Sharma also combined for the mixed doubles final, which ended after their opponents, Rehan R and Kowser J, were forced to forfeit down 0-2 in the encounter.

Mayank Behal won the men’s 40+ trophy by recording a 21-8 21-14 win over Pankaj Naithani. In semis, Behal had taken down top seed Antony Kattapurath Jacob 21-14 21-18 and Naithani had ousted Krishan Kumar Gupta 22-20 21-17. The men’s doubles final saw Manish Kumar Gupta and Naithani fight their waypast Raghavan P and and Varun Sharma 15-21 21-15 21-14. The pair of Abhinand Shetty and Sangeetha Mari won the mixed doubles final, defeating Raghavan P and Aditi Rode 21-10 21-14.

In another easy victory, Abhinn Shyam Gupta beat Jerry Martin M 21-10 21-17 in the the men’s 45+ final. Earlier, Gupta had defeated Ashish Sharma 21-14 21-12 while Martin had toiled hard to get the win over Kunal Makwana 24-26 21-15 21-19 in the semis.

Top seed Pooja Mehta secured the women’s singles title, defeating Swapnal Chakrabarty 21-6 21-5. In the semis, Pooja had beat Neelam Panda 21-8 21-10 while Swapnal Chakrabarty stunned third seed Bidisha Baruah 21-15 21-19. Sunil Gladson and Vijay Lancy Mascarenhas won the men’s double event by defeating Abhinn Shyam Gupta and Jaideep Kohli 21-12 21-18, while Sameer Abbasi and Pooja Mehta claimed the mixed doubles title by recording a comeback win over Sunil Gladson and Sarita Jethwani 8-21 21-13 21-9. In the semis, Sameer and Pooja defeated Jaison Xavier and Nisha Jayanandan 21-15 21-9, and the team of Gladson and Sarita Jethwani outlasted Ashish Sharma and Bhavana Sharma 21-18 16-21 21-16.

Xavier won the men’s 50+ final title by recording a 21-10 21-9 win over Salim Mohammad. In semis, Mohammad defeated Najeeb Kunil 21-10 21-9 and Xavier was leading 21-10 4-1 against Deepak Saxena, when the latter pulled out from the match.

Ashish Patel and Harendra Patel won the men’s doubles final by defeating Shrikant Bakshi and Navdeep Singh 21-15 26-24, while Parimelazhagan PJ and Banu S won the mixed doubles final by defeating Anil Kumar Srivastava and Sunita Singh Panwar 21-18 21-11.
