ROCK HILL, S.C. (WBTV) – A South Carolina swimming area has reopened after high levels of E. coli were found in the water.

York County said on Wednesday that the swimming area at Ebenezer Park is closed “until further notice.” By Friday, the same swimming area was reopened.

“A routine water test found elevated levels of E. coli in that area of the lake,” a county alert said Wednesday. “The swimming area will remain closed until further notice as we await additional testing.”

According to the CDC, most E. coli bacteria are harmless, but some can make people sick. The kind that can make people sick could cause diarrhea, urinary tract infections, pneumonia, sepsis and other illnesses.

York County did not say what type of E. coli was found in the water.

Ebenezer Park is on Lake Wylie in the India Hook area.
