With summer on its way in, now’s a good time to a dip in the pool with your pup to be sure their swimming skills are on point. And, while some dogs can’t wait to jump right in, while others…not so much.
Rhodey Joe the Dachshund recently had his fill of pool time. Just minutes in, his .1% effort on Mom’s behalf is such a mood.
It’s okay that Rhodey Joe isn’t interested in practicing his swim stroke right now. Not all dogs enjoy pool time. At least he’s giving it his some, right?
The 8-second video shared by Mom Miranda Hartley (@mirandahartley) is a pretty good metaphor for a few things: how a Monday feels, pouring rain during a picnic, and the moment your social battery runs out while at a party.
I relate to this Dachshund on a deep, spiritual level, and so do the 24k people who commented on the funny clip.
“He said: See? Happy now? I’m splashing. Can we go back inside now?” one person wrote. “Literally a visible representation of me making it through life,” another joked.
Another shared a similar sentiment adding, “How much effort I’m putting into my diet right now.”

As explained in a follow-up video, “His name is Rhodey Joe & he THRIVES on attention.” He also goes by Agent Joseph Roe, War Machine, and in “past lives” he was “The Fun Police, and a grumpy war veteran.
And now the swimming effort—or lack thereof—makes a lot more sense.
Rhodey Joe also lives with his two dog siblings and seems to think he’s the star of every show. Like all the tantrum-throwing, spicy, or opinionated dogs, This guy certainly keeps Mom on her toes with his spunky personality.
There are days I feel Rhodey Joe’s pool mood to my core, so maybe it just wasn’t his time. If the video fully captures the essence of his personality, and he truly loathes swim time, even better. You do you, War Machine!
