Bryson DeChambeau goes off on the state of the bunkers at the 2025 LIV Golf Mexico City event.

At LIV Mexico City last week, Bryson DeChambeau put together his best performance of the season, despite coughing up the lead. But if you saw Bryson’s angry reaction to the bunkers at the host course before the tournament began, you might be surprised with how well he played. Now a video has emerged from DeChambeau’s bunker rant, and TV analyst Brandel Chamblee is not happy about it.

DeChambeau’s LIV Mexico City swoon

During the first two rounds of LIV Mexico City, DeChambeau shot out of the gate with rounds of eight-under 63 and five-under 66 to take a one-shot lead into Sunday’s final round.

Bryson was fresh off a disappointing final round at the 2025 Masters, where he held the lead on the 3rd tee before struggling the rest of the way and shooting 75. Eventually, his dream of a Masters win faded as Rory McIlroy took the crown.

Given that poor ending, DeChambeau was likely intent on proving it was a one-time stumble. But in Mexico City, Bryson struggled again in the final round with a win on the line. He made two bogeys and a double bogey to finish at even par for the day. That dropped him to a T2-finish and handed the title to Joaquin Niemann.

Bryson’s angry bunker rant

That brings us to the video making the rounds in golf social media circles this week, shared by @perisgolf on Instagram. Before the LIV Mexico City event began, DeChambeau played a practice round at host course Club de Golf Chapultepec.

Amid his practice, Bryson was filmed struggling to escape from multiple bunkers on the course. The two-time U.S. Open champion was clearly unhappy with the state of the sand in the bunkers, and he loudly announced his displeasure to the camera.

“Worst f—ing bunkers ever!” DeChambeau exclaimed from a bunker with his arms raised in disgust, “The worst!”

When an observer asked if the issues Bryson was having were due to “wet sand,” DeChambeau shot that explanation down quickly.

“No! No! Look, you have the f—ing thumb roller. What the hell,” DeChambeau continued. “You can hurt somebody’s wrist. You can break somebody’s wrist. You can’t even get it out.”

What specific issue DeChambeau had with the bunker sand isn’t entirely clear, but to back up his words, the video shows the star LIV pro failing to escape from bunkers in at least four instances.

The video then cuts to DeChambeau in another bunker. After playing his shot, which once again didn’t leave the confines of the sand trap, DeChambeau reiterated his point.

“It’s so bad. This is better, but it’s so bad.”

Chamblee takes DeChambeau to task

Longtime TV analyst Brandel Chamblee is a frequent LIV Golf critic. And DeChambeau is one of his favorite targets.

So when Chamblee saw the video in question, he couldn’t help but comment on it publicly.

In a post on X, Chamblee wrote that DeChambeau “signed up for this” and claimed that LIV Golf doesn’t value the “best conditioned courses,” but instead those that will agree to host LIV events.

He then addressed Bryson directly, saying, “You signed on for hundreds of millions, quit complaining.”

Chamblee is the latest well-known golf analyst to criticize DeChambeau publicly, but not the first.

Six-time major winner and former CBS lead analyst Nick Faldo took heat recently for criticism he made of DeChambeau while working for Sky Sports during the 2025 Masters.

But when interviewed about the reaction, Faldo offered an impassioned defense of his critiques.

“That’s bulls–t,” Faldo said of his critics to the Times. “I like the guy. I texted him after he won the U.S. Open. I don’t like the way he plays at times, which I’m allowed to criticize.”

Golf fans will get to see DeChambeau on the biggest stage once again in two weeks, when he attempts to win his third-career major title at the 2025 PGA Championship.
