Does it feel like you might need to burn off some of that Halloween candy this weekend?

Then you’re in good luck.

As we turn the calendar to November, this weekend will offer opportunities to hop on the bike, clean up a local historic site or participate in family fun activities, to help everyone not regret that pile of Reese’s and Snickers you ate Friday night.

Take a look at what’s happening and start making your plans.

Sakonnet Coastal Bike & Stroll

Residents participate in a past Sakonnet Coastal Bike + Stroll in Portsmouth.

The Island Park Preservation Society and Bike Newport are issuing a direct call to the Aquidneck Island community and beyond to help get 1,000 bicycles to the 3rd Annual Sakonnet Coastal Bike & Stroll on Saturday, Nov. 1.

This event celebrates family-friendly, outdoor activities and highlights the community’s enthusiasm for cycling and active transportation. For the third consecutive year, a scenic stretch of coastal road through Island Park and The Hummocks will be safely closed to motorized vehicles, inviting everyone to enjoy three hours of car-free recreation.

The free, family-friendly event provides a unique opportunity to experience the coastal beauty of Portsmouth safely.

The car-free route includes Park Avenue (starting just east of Mason Avenue) and Point Road, Hummocks Avenue and Anthony Road (up to the railroad overpass).

The route also connects directly with the shared-use path on the Sakonnet River Bridge, creating an opportunity for residents of Tiverton and beyond to join the challenge. There is no official start or finish line, participants are encouraged to hop on the route wherever they meet it.

All participants must complete an electronic waiver prior to riding or walking. Helmets are encouraged for all participants and are required up to age 15. The road is closed to cars strictly between 8:30 a.m. and noon. For more information and a link to the waiver, search Facebook for Sakonnet Coastal Bike + Stroll 2025
