If you think you have been cold this winter, think again. Carson High 2011 alumni, Lisa Yamamoto, knows a different meaning of cold…she swims in it.
Carson residents Nancy and Dr. Richard Yamamoto spent an exciting week in Molveno, Italy watching their daughter Lisa compete in the International Ice Swimming Association (IISA) 6th World Championship.
Over 750 swimmers from 45 countries gathered to compete in waters about 34 F with an air temperature around of 35 degrees F. The competition was tough with around 150 swimmers per event.
Swimming freestyle, Lisa put on an amazing performance. For females:
500m – 7:36 minutes; 5th in age group, 18th overall, the top American finisher
250m – 3:23 minutes; 3rd in age group, 12th overall
1000m – 14:53 minutes; 2nd in her age group, top American finisher and 6th place overall!
Lisa was chosen to represent Team USA in the 4x250m relay (2 men, 2 women.) The top 16 countries competed. USA took the gold!
Congratulations Lisa. We are so proud of you and impressed with this rigorous sport you have tackled.
