After trimming his recruitment down to just five programs, one of the nation’s top passing combo guards in the 2026 recruiting class announced he has scheduled an official visit with Iowa basketball later this fall.
Hailing from Wheeling, West Virginia, with measurements of 6-foot-5 and 190 pounds, four-star Eli Sancomb is currently ranked as the No. 124 overall recruit, No. 17 combo guard prospect, and No. 1 player in the state, according to 247Sports’ Composite rankings.
Along with Iowa, the Hawkeyes are joined by Colorado State, Liberty, Loyola-Chicago, and Saint Louis, all of which are competing for Sancombs’ commitment this fall.
In the immediate future, the four-star recruit already has pre-existing official visits scheduled to Liberty (August 30) and Loyola-Chicago (September 6). However, Sancomb has now added stops at the three other programs in his top 5, with Saint Louis (September 11-13), Iowa (beginning on September 14), and Colorado State (weekend of September 20).
During his phenomenal junior season with Central Catholic High School, Sancomb was named the 2025 West Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year and led the Maroon Knights to their 13th State Championship.
Sancomb would continue his stellar performance as a breakout player for the WV Gold on the Pro16 Circuit this spring and summer, averaging 15.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game, while shooting 38.2% from 3-point territory.
His high basketball IQ has made him one of the best passing guards in the country, who can make a variety of reads with the ball in his hands. Additionally, his size allows him to execute terrific ball screens and shoot from beyond the arc with precision.
Considering the versatile offensive capabilities of Sancomb and the fact that the Hawkeyes do not have to fend off other top-tier programs, Iowa could be getting a steal of a pickup if Ben McCollum can manage to land the four-star guard prospect.
