Rochester, N.Y. — Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., Theta Omega Sigma Chapter held their annual Swim 1922 program Saturday.

The free event aimed at promoting water safety and reducing swimming apprehension.

The initiative, in partnership with USA Swimming, seeked to educate the community on the importance of swimming skills.

“It basically allows kids to get free swim lessons, also learn about safety because what we’ve recognized is the CDC says that people of color, Black and brown people, which is what this community center serves mostly, we drown at higher rates than most other groups of people,” said Kimberly Brown, president of the local chapter for Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

The event at the Adams Street R-Center, featured swim lessons for both youth and adults, along with in-water exercises, games, and activities.
