Scottsdale police arrested a man accused of fatally shooting another at an apartment complex.
Scottsdale police said officers responded to a call about an apartment near Granite Reef Road and McDonald Road at around 12:25 a.m. April 2 after a 25-year-old man accused of fatally shooting 30-year-old Gino Mendoza called 911 to report the shooting.
Police said Mendoza was taken to a hospital with multiple gunshot wounds where he later died. The other man, who police did not identify, claimed the shooting was in self-defense, according to police.
Scottsdale police said detectives, crime scene personnel and representatives with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office responded to the scene and investigated throughout the morning. The man was ultimately booked on one count of second-degree murder, but he was not identified by police or the Attorney’s Office.
Mendoza’s cause of death will be determined by the Maricopa County medical examiner.
