DALLAS – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s golf team is tied for 15th after the first day of the Trinity Forrest Invitational on Sunday at Trinity Forest Golf Course.
The Vaqueros posted a first round 300 as they are tied with Cal Poly and two shots behind Louisiana.
Sophomore Gabriel Dulon Villoslada led the way for the Vaqueros as he carded a first round one-over par 73 and is tied for 42nd. Junior Esteban Gonzalez is tied for 49th after a first round two-over par 74.
Junior Rodolphe Cicala is tied for 56th after a first round 75, freshman Brock Porter is tied for 78th with a first round 78, and freshman Jorge Martin Sampedro is tied for 86th with a first round 80.
USC and Baylor hold a share of the lead after posting rounds of 279. Furman’s Clark Akers holds the individual lead with a first round 64.
The Vaqueros will be back at it tomorrow for the second round of the Trinity Forest Invitational with the first group teeing off at 9 a.m.
