Tennessee basketball senior guard and 2022 Michigan Miss Basketball Ruby Whitehorn was arrested in Knox County, Tennessee on Friday, Aug. 8, according to court records obtained by Knox News.

Records show that Whitehorn, 21, faces charges of aggravated burglary and domestic assault after the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic dispute in North Knox County at 4:18 p.m. on Aug. 8. Both charges are felonies.

Whitehorn is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 12 at 8:30 a.m.

“We are aware of the situation and are continuing to gather additional information,” a Tennessee spokesperson told Knox News on Aug. 10.

The victim saw Whitehorn in the parking lot and went outside after she said she heard glass break outside of her residence, according to the report. She and Whitehorn got into “a physical altercation” in the parking lot of the victim’s residence and then began “wrestling/fighting” when the victim’s dog got loose and she went to retrieve it, according to the incident report.

The victim said she then ran inside with what she thought was her phone, according to the report, and she locked the door behind her. The woman said Whitehorn began screaming and kicked in the front door of the victim’s residence and then chased her upstairs, according to the report. The victim said she locked her bedroom door, and Whitehorn kicked in the door before smashing a glass mirror in the bedroom, retrieving her phone and leaving.

The front door “appeared to have been kicked in” due to the broken frame and footprints on the door, the report said, and the bedroom door had also been kicked open, according to the report. The officers also saw a shattered mirror in the bedroom.

The victim said she was “in complete fear that Ruby was going to harm her while she was inside the house,” according to the report. Neither Whitehorn or the victim had visible injuries and neither complained of any injuries, according to the report.

The victim provided cell phone video that showed Whitehorn entering the house and fighting with her in the bedroom, according to the report. Whitehorn said the victim started fighting with her in the parking lot while she was trying to leave, according to the report, and that the victim attacked her first.

Whitehorn said she was “trying to defend herself” and she was “just getting her property back,” after Whitehorn said the victim had also taken her passport before running inside, according to the report.

SCHEDULE: Unpacking Lady Vols basketball’s tougher nonconference schedule in Kim Caldwell’s second season

Due to the video evidence and physical evidence at the residence, officers deemed Whitehorn the primary aggressor in the incident. Knox County Sheriff forensics also responded to and processed the scene.

Whitehorn, a Detroit native, transferred to Tennessee prior to the 2024-25 season after playing her first two seasons at Clemson. The 6-foot guard was a key player for the Lady Vols as they made a run to the Sweet 16, averaging 11.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists.

Whitehorn starred at Detroit Edison in high school where she averaged 25.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 4.3 steals. When she won Michigan Miss Basketball in 2022, she became the fourth straight player from Detroit Edison to win the award.
